Pratt Pest Management will donate at least $1000.00 to Haiti
The Haiti earthquake of January 2010 lasted 30 seconds but killed over 230,000 people and left 1 million people homeless. Horrendous sanitation conditions and a lack of basic pest management science are hampering medical care efforts.
Pratt Pest Management NW will donate $1.00 from every service performed during the Month of November or $1000.00 minimum as part of a National Pest Management Association (NPMA) effort to raise $250,000 to support pest management initiatives for hospitals in Port au Prince, Haiti. NPMA will use the collected funds for maintenance to medical facilities that will minimize entry points for pests, the purchase of products designed to prevent pest infestations from buildings, training of Haitian workers so they can properly perform pest control operations, and a PSA campaign to educate Haitians on general daily steps they can take to minimize threats of pests, and accordingly the diseases they carry.
“Protecting people’s health and property is something we do every day and the results are often taken for granite here. But in Haiti this effort will make a noticeable difference towards saving lives” says Dana Pratt, President of Pratt Pest Management.
Industry efforts will focus on minimizing and eliminating roaches, rodents, flies, and mosquitoes especially to medical facilities where those with pre-existing health complications are most vulnerable to pest related diseases. Diseases and health threats caused by these pests include E. coli, Cholera, Salmonella, Asthma, Malaria, Dengue Fever, and others. Current conditions in hospitals are deplorable; if conditions are not improved, Haiti will face drastic health problems from illness exacerbated by disease carrying rodents and insects.
